10 Hottest Entertainment Trends For 2017
1. Gypsy Jazz bands
Gypsy Jazz, also known as gypsy swing or hot club Jazz is a style of music that originated in France by the gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt in the 1930s. This music is acoustic, fast, exciting and easy listening, perfect for creating a sophisticated party atmosphere. Why are gypsy Jazz bands getting so popular? Because the music appeals to all ages, isn’t too loud due to not having a drum kit or electric instruments and it’s also something a bit different to your standard function band.
2. Jazz/Swing Bands
The Jazz collective ‘Post Modern Jukebox’ kick started the idea of taking a vintage style Jazz band and playing up to date modern pop songs. There’s something really unique in hearing a modern song being played in an old school Jazz style on acoustic instruments. Make your wedding truly unique and ask the band to play your favourite song in a vintage style for your first dance.
3. Rockabilly Bands
Why Rockabilly bands? Every one of your guests from children to great aunts will love it, because who doesn’t like dancing to Elvis and Tutii Fruitii? Good Rockabilly bands are high energy, entertaining and value for money.
4. Cocktail Pianists
Let’s be honest the piano is hot every year, which is why we’ve kept it in this years list. Who doesn’t enjoy listening to a piano at an event, add some class to your wedding with either classical or Jazz background music.
5. European Accordionists
The Accordion probably isn’t the first instrument you would think of booking to play at your drinks reception, but these instruments create a beautiful, acoustic sound that will instantly transport you and your guests to a sophisticated wedding in the south of France. Have your accordionist play modern songs in a French, Italian or Tango style for a twist on traditional background music that your guests will never forget.
6. Photo Booths
Photo booths have never been so popular, and it’s due to the recent release of booths like the mirror Kiosk. The advantage of the Kiosk is the amount of people you can fit in the pictures. Most are setup with an easy to use touch screen interface allowing even the drunkest of guests to take a mug shot. The Magic Mirror booths are proving to be the most popular kiosk this year. They come in various shapes and sizes, feature giant touch screen reflective mirrors and allow guests to customise photos using the on screen paint pad and get them printed in less than 10 seconds! The kiosk style booths for hire are transportable, stylish and affordable.
Magicians are great for all ages, they work particularly well at drinks receptions to break the ice and get everyone in the party mood. Get the right magician and your guests will be in stitches, baffled and be waffling on all night about how he made their ring disappear.
8. Outdoor Vintage Games
If you’re planning a pretty outdoor wedding reception, then a great way to entertain your guests is with some classic games that can be played outside. Not only is this a perfect ice breaker for friends and family who might be meeting for the first time, it’s also a brilliant way to get everyone involved and having lots of fun – not to mention you’ll get loads of priceless photo moments!
9. Fairground & Festival Entertainment
Yep, Festival & Fairground themed weddings have been around for a while but are going stronger than ever. There is something primal about spending the night partying in a huge tipi, dancing around a fire in the middle of a field. But what sort of entertainment might you have? Well, the list is endless but here are a few popular acts. Fire Jugglers, Knife Throwers, Acrobatic/Muscle Men and vintage puppet shows for the kids. etc
10. Cocktail Bars
Cocktails are having a huge resurgence at the moment, especially long, refreshing juice based cocktails in dispensers. These are perfect for your welcome drinks. Whether you hire a popup cocktail bar or make them in batch yourself for your guests to help themselves, cocktails are super hot right now.
